Progress on the deck


I have now got five strips on each, side done, together with the center strip. The photo shows the view towards the stern of the kayak. I am quite pleased with the look of the darker walnut strips. I am planning on doing the cockpit coaming in the same walnut.


Unfortunately, those walnut strips did for my thicknesser - the head jammed and it melted through the drive belt! A new belt is on order as I think that I am going to have to make some additional strips.

 All the panels wired together and ends of the sheer camps glued. Mistake 2...I trimmed these before making sure that the beam was the correct 33 inches, so had to make a couple of small wedges to infill. A small change of plan

  I was just starting to fit the deck when it occurred to me to count the nails provided. The number in the bag was fewer than I'll need, so I have contacted Fyne and they will be sending more. In the meantime, I decided to paint the inside of the forward and aft compartments. In other developments,  I have booked to go on a 5 day sea kayak course in Scotland in Spring next year...very excited!

The third coat

 Here is the third coat of epoxy going onto the hull. The glass weave has disappeared from the flat bottom, but there is still a little visible on the sides - I might need a forth coat there. I am using a small foam paint roller, and the epoxy goes on very thinly - a good thing, I think.
