Ready to varnish

 

Well, everything is now installed (foot brace supports and back support anchor points) so I have sanded the outside of the boat to 120 grit, and had a massive clear up in the garage to reduce the dust to as low a level as possible.

The next step will be to apply 2 or three coats of yacht spar varnish to the outside. I will probably leave the inside as it is as this shouldn't get much UV light.

 All the panels wired together and ends of the sheer camps glued. Mistake 2...I trimmed these before making sure that the beam was the correct 33 inches, so had to make a couple of small wedges to infill. Kit Ordered

  I have stopped obsessing, and have ordered the kit from Fyne Boats. My garage is just long enough for the build (I hope), and the garden shed is just big enough to accommodate the completed kayak (I hope).  The finished craft should look something like the photo.

The third coat

 Here is the third coat of epoxy going onto the hull. The glass weave has disappeared from the flat bottom, but there is still a little visible on the sides - I might need a forth coat there. I am using a small foam paint roller, and the epoxy goes on very thinly - a good thing, I think.
