1st mistake


 I should have known. Some of the epoxy seeped in between the two sheer panels and ended up a bit stuck together. When I prised them apart some of the wood tore away (particularly around the puzzle joints).

I mixed up some epoxy and wood flour to fill the holes - As I am going to paint the hull below the deck, it shouldn't matter too much, but there is a lesson to learn...

Mistake 2...I trimmed these before making sure that the beam was the correct 33 inches, so had to make a couple of small wedges to infill. Kit Ordered

  I have stopped obsessing, and have ordered the kit from Fyne Boats. My garage is just long enough for the build (I hope), and the garden shed is just big enough to accommodate the completed kayak (I hope).  The finished craft should look something like the photo.

A small change of plan

  I was just starting to fit the deck when it occurred to me to count the nails provided. The number in the bag was fewer than I'll need, so I have contacted Fyne and they will be sending more. In the meantime, I decided to paint the inside of the forward and aft compartments. In other developments,  I have booked to go on a 5 day sea kayak course in Scotland in Spring next year...very excited!
