I hate epoxy


 When I coated the deck with glass fibre and epoxy, I think I made a mistake. As far as I  know, epoxy must be added to a previous coat before it has cured completely so the two layers can bond chemically. Alternatively, the previous coat can be sanded to give it a 'key. if it has already cured. I was aiming for the first scenario, but for whatever reason the top coat did not stick. I had no choice, really - I had to scrape and sand down to a solid base (the glass fibre in this case). 

I have completed this, sanded with 60 grit and recoated with (hopefully) a final coat of epoxy.

  I have stopped obsessing, and have ordered the kit from Fyne Boats. My garage is just long enough for the build (I hope), and the garden shed is just big enough to accommodate the completed kayak (I hope).  The finished craft should look something like the photo.

The third coat

 Here is the third coat of epoxy going onto the hull. The glass weave has disappeared from the flat bottom, but there is still a little visible on the sides - I might need a forth coat there. I am using a small foam paint roller, and the epoxy goes on very thinly - a good thing, I think.

All wired up

 All the panels wired together and ends of the sheer camps glued. Mistake 2...I trimmed these before making sure that the beam was the correct 33 inches, so had to make a couple of small wedges to infill. I also had to take the table off my bandsaw to make enough room... I had some fun with time lapse on my phone too...
