All Painted Up

 

Well, I have finished a primer and two coats of gloss on the hull, Three coats of varnish on the deck and a primer and two coats of gloss in the cockpit. 

It's not perfect (or even close) but I am pretty happy with it as it stands.

The desk hatches are also varnished on the top and painted underneath.

So left to do... Fit the bulkhead plugs, pad-eyes and deck hatch seals and fittings. Install the footrests.

Then, with a bit of luck I maybe able to carry out the first launch in March...!

  I have stopped obsessing, and have ordered the kit from Fyne Boats. My garage is just long enough for the build (I hope), and the garden shed is just big enough to accommodate the completed kayak (I hope).  The finished craft should look something like the photo.

The third coat

 Here is the third coat of epoxy going onto the hull. The glass weave has disappeared from the flat bottom, but there is still a little visible on the sides - I might need a forth coat there. I am using a small foam paint roller, and the epoxy goes on very thinly - a good thing, I think.

All wired up

 All the panels wired together and ends of the sheer camps glued. Mistake 2...I trimmed these before making sure that the beam was the correct 33 inches, so had to make a couple of small wedges to infill. I also had to take the table off my bandsaw to make enough room... I had some fun with time lapse on my phone too...
