Ready to Launch...

 

Well, it's done. I have now fitted all the hardware:

-  Stainless steel padeyes fore and aft for attaching a line.

-  Bungee stays for the toggles  - Maroske-style where the bungee goes through a plastic tube glued inside the boat.

-  Stays to hold the back of the seats up.

-  Bungee cords to hold the deck hatches from the inside.

-  Deck hatch handles made from paracord (also through Maroske-style fittings).

-  Footrests.

I just need to figure out how to fit some water/beer bottle holders!!


I am hoping for a first voyage sometime this month, or maybe early April (with some promised help from my Sister and Nephew).

 All the panels wired together and ends of the sheer camps glued. Mistake 2...I trimmed these before making sure that the beam was the correct 33 inches, so had to make a couple of small wedges to infill. Kit Ordered

  I have stopped obsessing, and have ordered the kit from Fyne Boats. My garage is just long enough for the build (I hope), and the garden shed is just big enough to accommodate the completed kayak (I hope).  The finished craft should look something like the photo.

A small change of plan

  I was just starting to fit the deck when it occurred to me to count the nails provided. The number in the bag was fewer than I'll need, so I have contacted Fyne and they will be sending more. In the meantime, I decided to paint the inside of the forward and aft compartments. In other developments,  I have booked to go on a 5 day sea kayak course in Scotland in Spring next year...very excited!
