More strips

 

I have now put eight strips on each side. As I am getting further down the hull, a lot more twist is needed to get them to fit...more clamps, more tape, the occasional screw and one split scarf joint and a few more gaps than before! 

After the next layer, I will switch to focussing on one side only, up to the centre line. I can then use the router 'cheat' to make a straight seam.

 All the panels wired together and ends of the sheer camps glued. Mistake 2...I trimmed these before making sure that the beam was the correct 33 inches, so had to make a couple of small wedges to infill. Kit Ordered

  I have stopped obsessing, and have ordered the kit from Fyne Boats. My garage is just long enough for the build (I hope), and the garden shed is just big enough to accommodate the completed kayak (I hope).  The finished craft should look something like the photo.

A small change of plan

  I was just starting to fit the deck when it occurred to me to count the nails provided. The number in the bag was fewer than I'll need, so I have contacted Fyne and they will be sending more. In the meantime, I decided to paint the inside of the forward and aft compartments. In other developments,  I have booked to go on a 5 day sea kayak course in Scotland in Spring next year...very excited!
